National Advisory Committee on Immunization
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) is a Canadian advisory body operating within the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).1) It is tasked with “providing guidance on the use of vaccines currently or newly approved for use in Canada to the Government of Canada.”2)
History
NACI was formed in 1964.3)
COVID-19
On April 23, 2021, NACI recommended the AstraZeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccine be offered to “all Canadians over the age of 30, but only when the benefits outweigh the risks of rare, serious post-vaccine blood clots.”4)
On June 29, 2022, NACI issued guidance recommending “booster doses” of COVID-19 vaccines for all “Canadians at increased risk of serious illness from COVID-19”, regardless of how many doses they had previously received.5)
On March 3, 2023, NACI called for “high-risk individuals” to receive another booster dose in the spring.6) 7)
