Tom Wong

Dr. Thomas Wong MD, MPH, CCFP, FRCPC is a Canadian infectious diseases and public health specialist based in Ottawa, Ontario.

Education

Wong is trained in family medicine, internal medicine, infectious diseases and public health at McGill University, Harvard University and Columbia University.

University of Toronto

Wong is an Assistant Professor in epidemiology at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto.2)

University of Ottawa

Wong is an adjunct professor at the School of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Ottawa.3)

Indigenous Services Canada

Wong is the Chief Medical Officer of Public Health and the Chief Science Officer at the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch of Indigenous Services Canada.4) In this role, he served as a liaison representative on the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI), responsible for approving COVID-19 vaccines in Canada.5)

Research

Wong's research interests include communicable diseases, HIV, healthcare-associated infections, homeless populations, incarcerated populations, ethics, antimicrobial resistance, social media, electronic medical records, and implementation research.

Funding

Wong has received many grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

He received an “independent medical grant” from Pfizer for HIV research.6)
