Gerald Evans

Dr. Gerald Evans is a Canadian physician and infectious diseases specialist based in Kingston, Ontario.

Career and Affiliations

Queen's University

Evans is the Chair of the Division of Infectious Diseases and a Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Biomedical & Molecular Sciences and Pathology & Molecular Medicine at Queen’s University. He was initially appointed to a faculty position at Queen’s in 1990.1)

Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease Canada

Evans was the President of the Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease Canada (AMMI Canada) from 2009-2011, and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Official Journal of the Association of Microbiology and Infectious Disease Canada.

He is also the former Chair of the Guidelines Committee of AMMI Canada.2)

Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care

Evans is the immediate past Chair of the Committee to Evaluate Drugs of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Ministry’s expert advisory committee on optimal drug utilization for the province of Ontario. He also serves as Chair of the Working Group on Drugs for Rare Diseases for the MOHLTC.

Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences

Evans is an Affiliate Scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences.5)

Public Health Ontario

Evans is an Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) consultant physician with Public Health Ontario.

Ontario Health

Evans is a member of the Cancer Care Ontario subcommittee under Ontario Health.6)

Ontario Drug Policy Research Network

Evans is a co-investigator with the Ontario Drug Policy Research Network (ODPRN), hosted at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto.7)

Reformulary

Evans is a member of the Expert Committee for Reformulary, an evidence-based list of drugs reviewed and recommended by the panel.8)

Critical Care Canada forum

Evans has participated as a speaker at the Critical Care Canada Forum, the official meeting of the Canadian Critical Care Society.9) The Forum's 2021 webinars were sponsored by Medtronic, Merck, Paladin Laboratories, and Masimo.10)

Canadian Lyme Disease Research Network

Evans is a co-applicant on a grant for the Canadian Lyme Disease Research Network, the project formerly led by Dr. Kieran Moore.11)

Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table

Evans is a member of the Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table, including as a member of the Behavioural Science Working Group.12)

COVID-19

Evans received research funding from the Southeastern Ontario Academic Medical Organization (SOAMO) for “synthesis and preclinical testing of novel small molecule therapies for COVID‐19.”13)
