Gobat is the social science lead for the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) research group.

History

Gobat has worked with the Platform for European Preparedness Against (Re-)emerging Epidemics (PREPARE) where she “led research and operational readiness initiatives aimed at identifying solutions to ethical, administrative, regulatory and logistical barriers that stand in the way of clinical research being delivered during high impact infectious disease outbreaks.”2)

Gobat co-authored a study titled Advancing preparedness for clinical research during infectious disease epidemics, submitted for publication by the journal of the European Respiratory Society in November 2018. It was published online May 2019.3) Her co-authors were John Amuasi, Yazdan Yazdanpanah, Louise Sigfid, Hugh Davies, John-Paul Byrne, Gail Carson, Christopher Butler, Alistair Nichol, and Herman Goossens.

Gobat served as Outbreak Response Lead for the European Clinical Research Alliance for Infectious Diseases (ECRAID) planning phase, called ECRAID-Plan, where she “led the development of outbreak response services and operations in contribution to the business plan.”4) 5)

COVID-19

Gobat participated in a February 11-12, 2020 event titled “2019 novel Coronavirus Global research and innovation forum: towards a research roadmap” co-hosted by the World Health Organization R&D Blueprint and Global Research Collaboration for Infectious Disease Preparedness (GLOPID-R). She and Emily Chan presented on the topic of “Integrating social sciences in the outbreak response”.6) Gobat and Chan chair the R&D Blueprint's COVID-19 Social Science Working Group.7)

Gobat was closely involved in PREPARE's outbreak response escalation for COVID-19 that led to the Horizon 2020-funded Rapid European COVID-19 Emergency Research Response (RECOVER) research consortium. For RECOVER, Gobat leads “social science research relevant to COVID-19 clinical research and health service delivery.”8)

In April 2020, Gobat was named as a recipient of a £300,000 grant from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) for a study to “understand the dynamics of policy development and healthcare worker experience.”9) This work was in association with the National Institute for Health Research Health Protection Research Unit for Emerging and Zoonotic Infections, where Gobat leads “public involvement in close collaboration with the knowledge mobilisation lead.”10) She also conducted work in association with the Epidemic Diseases Research Group Oxford (ERGO).11)
