Laura Sauvé

Dr. Laura Sauvé is a Canadian pediatric infectious disease specialist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is employed by the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA).1)

She is a Clinical Assistant Professor and a pediatric infectious disease specialist at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She is also the co-primary investigator of the Canadian Perinatal HIV Surveillance Program, funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).2) She is also an investigator for the CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network (CTN).3)

She is the medical co-lead for Infection Prevention and Control at BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital.

History

Education

Sauvé completed medical school and pediatric residency at the University of Calgary, a fellowship at the SickKids, a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in Peru and a Masters in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

From August 2006 to August 2007, Sauvé worked for the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI).4)

Sauvé joined the Vaccine Evaluation Center at the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute in 2007 as the BC site investigator for the Canadian Immunization Monitoring Program, ACTive (IMPAct).5) She was the pediatrics residency program director at the University of British Columbia from 2010 – 2017, and is the education lead for the Center for International Child Health at BC Children’s Hospital.

COVID-19

Sauvé is the pediatric representative to the Clinical Research Group at the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) which leads review of all provincial COVID-19 guidelines, and the chair of the Canadian Paediatric Society’s Committee on Infectious Diseases and Immunization.

On March 9, 2022, a video featuring Sauvé was uploaded to a YouTube channel called Healthy Canadians, run by the Government of Canada.6) In the video, she downplays the risks of adverse events following injection of children, specifically omitting every severe adverse event.
