Operation Blackout

Operation Blackout was a counter-terrorism exercise that took place on November 5, 2019 in Washington, D.C.

The “election hacking tabletop exercise” simulated sabotage of civilian infrastructure, terrorism and psychological operations against American citizens on the day of the 2020 United States Presidential Election.

Participants

The event was led by Cybereason, a private cybersecurity company. Participants included the Arlington County Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and United States Secret Service.1)

Additional participants included Sam Curry and Ari Schwartz, Managing Director of Cybersecurity Services at Venable.
