Art of Problem Solving

Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) is an American education company based in San Diego, California.

AoPS was founded by Richard Rusczyk, launched in May 2003 following the publication of several books of the same name.¹⁾ Mathew Crawford was the first employee of AoPS, helping to write and teach most of the online classes during the first three years of the AoPS online school.^{2) 3)}

In 2004, the National Security Agency (NSA) approached AoPS to take over the USA Mathematical Talent Search (USAMTS), which the agency had run for six years. This resulted in the forming of the Art of Problem Solving Foundation to administer the event.

In 2005, AoPS launched the Worldwide Online Olympiad Training (WOOT) program with sponsorship funding from Google and D.E. Shaw & Co.^{4) 5)} Rusczyk had previously worked at D.E. Shaw & Co. as Senior Vice President from 1994-1998.⁶⁾
