Clinical Trials

A clinical trial application for “isoquercetin” was submitted to Health Canada by Pharmascience Inc. in partnership with Montreal Clinical Research Institute (MCRI)/Institut de Recherches Cliniques de Montréal (IRCM), and the International Consortium on Anti-Virals (ICAV) on May 30, 2020. The group described isoquercetin as “a wide spectrum anti-viral” with potential to treat patients hospitalized with mild to moderate COVID-19. In partnership with the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the group had already demonstrated that “isoquercetin is effective against the Ebola and Zika viruses in animals and against the SARS CoV-2 (sic) virus in vitro.” Further, the authors note that the compound is naturally-occurring and is present in most people's diets (such as in onions).1)

This trial was approved on or around July 17, 2020. Capsules containing a patented Isoquercetin formulation called ISQ950AN were supplied by Quercis Pharma AG out of Switzerland.2)
