History
Education
Kaplan-Myrth attended McGill University for her Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from 1993-1997, travelling to Australia on exchange to the University of Adelaide in her final year. She completed medical school at the University of Ottawa. She won a Commonwealth scholarship to University College London, and a Fulbright for her PhD at Yale University where she wrote her thesis on Indigenous self-determination and health.
COVID-19
Kaplan-Myrth alleges to have received death threats as a result of holding mass-vaccination pop-ups in residential neighbourhoods. Among the threats was a letter which she forwarded to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and the Ottawa Police Service.2) An article covering the incident (and Kaplan-Myrth's plea for help to Justin Trudeau) written by The Canadian Press and published by CTV News was funded by Facebook and Canadian Press News Fellowship.
As of September 2022, Kaplan-Myrth requires that patients wear masks for all appointments.3)
In August 2022, Kaplan-Myrth announced she was running to be a trustee for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, stating “we need to ensure there are voices that don’t debate the validity of science.”4) 5)
