Dr. Martin Lavoie is a Canadian public health official based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Career and Affiliations
Alberta Health Services
Lavoie was Medical Officer of Health for the David Thompson Health Region (DTHR) from 2002-2008. The DTHR reorganized into Alberta Health Services in 2008, where Lavoie continued into his new role as Senior Provincial Medical Officer of Health, and eventually Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health until 2017.1) 2)
While at AHS, Lavoie advocated for people to get the influenza vaccines.3)
Fraser Health Authority
Lavoie worked for the Fraser Health Authority from August 2017 to July 2020. He started as the Executive Medical Director/Medical Officer of Health, then moved to Interim VP of Population Health and Chief Medical Officer of Health, then fully taking that position.4) 5)
Government of British Columbia
Lavoie is a Deputy Provincial Health Officer for the Government of British Columbia, serving under Dr. Bonnie Henry at the BC Ministry of Health.6) He began in this position in July 2020.7)
Public Health Agency of Canada
Lavoie is a liaison representative for the Council of Chief Medical Officers of Health on the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI), the body responsible for recommending the approval of COVID-19 vaccines in Canada.8)
