José Manuel Barroso
History
In his university days, Barros was a leader of the Portuguese Workers' Communist Party/Re-Organized Movement of the Party of the Proletariat, a Maoist political party in Portugal.
World Economic Forum (1993)
Barros was named a Young Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum in 1993.
Bilderberg Group (1994-present)
Barros is a member of the Bilderberg Steering Committee, having participated in many meetings of the Bilderberg Group from 1994 through to at least 2019.
Prime Minister of Portugal (2002-2004)
Barros served as the Prime Minister of Portugal from 2002-2004. In March 2003, Barros met with United States President George W. Bush, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar to finalize plans to launch the US invasion of Iraq.
European Commission (2004-2014)
Barros served as President of the European Commission from 2004-2014. He led the launch of Horizon 2020, the EU funding programme for scientific research and innovation.
Goldman Sachs International (2016-present)
Barroso is the non-executive chairman of Goldman Sachs International.

Barroso is a senior advisor of Chatham House, which has received funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to “discuss the value of vaccines in reducing the impact of antimicrobial resistance” and other vaccine-focused initiatives., , , , , Chatham House’s corporate partners include pharmaceutical companies Bayer, GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi.
Kofi Annan Foundation
Since 2016, Barroso has served as a member of the Electoral Integrity Initiative for the Kofi Annan Foundation. The KAF is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Facebook, Meta, Twitter, and Open Society Foundations.
The foundation is partnered with the Global Commission on Drug Policy, International Drug Policy Consortium, UNESCO, United Nations, and the United Nations Foundation.
