Ethan Faber

Ethan Faber is a Canadian journalist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is the news director for CTV News Vancouver.1)

History

Faber joined CTV News in 1997 as an on-air reporter.2)

In 2007, Faber completed a diploma program at the Poynter Institute.3)

In February 2014, Bell Media announced that Faber was selected to travel to Sierra Leone to “conduct human rights workshops and participate in mentorships with local radio and television reporters” as part of a partnership with Journalists for Human Rights (JHR).4)

Faber has been a board member for the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council (CBSC) since 2018.5)

Faber taught Broadcast Journalism at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) for ten years and sits on the National Ethics Advisory Committee for the Canadian Association of Journalists.

COVID-19

On January 1, 2023, Faber authored an opinion piece titled “We will not be intimidated: A New Year's message from our newsroom” responding to criticism about CTV's coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic.6) He invoked antisemitism to describe protesters and explained that his team take responsibility for the stories they write, as opposed to taking orders from a higher authority.

Faber has received awards from the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and RTDNA Canada.
