Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport

The Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, also called the Detroit Metro Airport, Detroit Metro, Metro Airport, or simply DTW, is an international airport in Romulus, Michigan.

History

On May 26, 2018, a centrifuge tube was confiscated, containing what the traveller described as “non-infectious E. coli bacteria-derived plasmids.”

On November 8, 2018, three vials labelled “antibodies” were confiscated from a foreign traveller who explained that he was delivering them to a colleague in the U.S. and that they were from a researcher in his home country. A report from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) suggested these likely contained samples of SARS and MERS.

On September 11, 2019, eight vials of clear liquid labelled WSN were confiscated from a foreign traveller who described the contents as “DNA … derived from a low-pathogenicity strain of H9N2”.1)
