History

COVID-19

As it happens, David Baszucki, founder and CEO of Roblox, was the primary sponsor for an important trial of the drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) led by principal investigator Dr. David Boulware of the University of Minnesota.

The study is a major reason why the use of HCQ was- and still is- denied for those infected with Covid-19, despite several studies showing HCQ is effective in preventing severe outcomes when given early to treat Covid-19. HCQ also has an excellent safety profile, proven over decades, and it is still prescribed routinely to treat other ailments, such as Lyme Disease. The funding sources for the study are listed by the University of Minnesota here, with Baszucki given top billing.

Context for the study may be gathered from an interview of Yale Professor of Epidemiology Dr. Harvey Risch, conducted by Mark Levin and aired on Fox News on 23 August 2020. Interestingly, their discussion identified the very University of Minnesota study funded by Roblox founder David Baszucki as an outlier.

Levin cited virologist Steve Hatfill, who grouped the study with the infamous retracted Lancet-gate paper- in which the mysterious company Surgisphere faked worldwide hospital data. Risch agreed the evidence for the HCQ effectiveness was overwhelming and described the situation regarding HCQ as a massive disinformation campaign.

So it is nearly impossible to overstate the role of the Baszucki-supported study as a catalyst for preventing the use of HCQ to treat Covid-19. With HCQ dismissed as an option for preventing hospitalizations and death, lockdowns were enforced for a much longer period of time.

One major beneficiary of the lockdowns was… David Baszucki himself. Roblox experienced rapid growth in 2020 because, according to Capitalist Today article, which cited Reuters: “Usage and spending on Roblox has surged as kids stuck at home in the COVID-19 pandemic spent more time on the platform, fueling an 85% year-on-year jump in daily active users and 2020 and a surge in monthly in-app sales.”

But David Baszucki was not the only person to benefit from Roblox’s stock increase attributable to the lockdown of children. It turns out that the family of Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, was given access to purchase Roblox stock at its initial public offering. “As you can see, the Pelosi’s purchased 10,000 shares of Roblox paying between $500,000-$1,000,000 on the day RBLX launched its shares on the NYSE.”2)
