History

COVID-19

A study published in June 2022 found that 99% of COVID-19 pandemic-related data websites were systematically tracking users without their consent.1) This was done through the use of third-party “cookies”, and was found from an analysis of 5,500 governmental websites and over 118,000 URLs administrated by governments.2) In her article for the National Pulse, journalist Natalie Winters noted the concerning implications for how this data made be used to track and control citizens, with such actions recently flaring up in China, consistent with their social credit score system.
