SMART Health Card

The SMART Health Card is a vaccine passport program developed by the Vaccine Credential Initiative (VCI).1)

It is described as providing “verified versions of your clinical information, such as vaccination history or test results” for COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.2) 3)

History

COVID-19

On August 5, 2021, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the introduction of the “Excelsior Pass Plus” which would expand the Excelsior Pass program into other states and internationally, by connecting it to the SMART Health Card.4) 5)

Developers

The SMART Health Card is based on standards set by Health Level Seven International (HL7), and technology developed at Boston Children's Hospital.6)
