Nicole Kain

Dr. Nicole Kain RN, BNSc, MPA, PhD is a Canadian regulatory manager based in Edmonton, Alberta.

Education

Kain received her PhD in Public Health from the University of Alberta in 2017, and was the inaugural doctoral recipient of the Dean’s Gold Medal from the School of Public Health. Her dissertation explored how family physicians in Canada experience public health crises, and the related risk communication processes surrounding such events.1)

Career

Kain is the program manager of the Research & Evaluation Unit at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.2) Kain holds Clinical Lecturer Appointments in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta. She also serves as an elected board member on the Board of Directors for the Coalition for Physician Enhancement (CPE), and is currently Co-Chair of CPE’s Program Committee.

She is a member of the Women & Children's Health Research Institute (WCHRI), the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA), the Alberta Public Health Association (APHA), the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) and the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

Research

Kain’s research interests include public health; health policy; infectious disease prevention; immunizations and vaccine preventable diseases; risk communication to healthcare professionals; qualitative research methods; mixed- and multi-method health research; physician quality improvement processes; and risk and support factors for healthcare professionals.
