Michael Austin

Dr. Michael Austin, MD, FRCPC is a Canadian emergency physician and health regulator based in Ottawa, Ontario.

He is Director of Prehospital Transport Medicine (PTM) and Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa's Department of Emergency Medicine, and works at the Ottawa Hospital and Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.1)

History

Education

Austin graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2008.

Career

Starting in October 2015, Austin served as Associate Medical Director for the Regional Paramedic Program for Eastern Ontario (RPPEO).

Austin has been Medical Director of the University of Ottawa Volunteer Crisis Response Team (VCRT) since July 2016. He has worked as a Group Doctor for GleeCeptional since September 2016.

In April 2019, Austin became a Medical Evaluator at Health Canada's Marketed Health Products Directorate and Bureau of Biological Radiopharmaceuticals and Self-Care Products (BBRS). According to his LinkedIn profile, he is particularly interested “in barriers to reporting adverse events by both health care providers and the public to improve data surveillance.”

In May 2022, Austin began working as President, Board Chair and National Medical Director of the ACT Foundation.2)

Starting in October 2022, Austin has worked as a contracted “peer-to-peer” physician with Ontario Health.3)
