Vaccine Engagement Teams Grants
Mayor John Tory announced that the City of Toronto awarded $5.5 million to various groups and organizations with the goal of “reducing barriers to the COVID-19 vaccines, and increasing vaccination uptake”.1) Fourteen teams were “funded to carry out work between April 2021 and March 2022”.
A priority for the program was to recruit 280 “resident ambassadors” to coordinate campaigns within the targeted communities. These ambassadors received training from behavioural scientists on influencing their communities to comply with COVID-19 vaccination suggestions.
