Dr. Beatriz da Costa Thomé is a Brazilian paediatrician based in Geneva, Switzerland.

History

COVID-19

Thomé participated in a February 11-12, 2020 event titled “2019 novel Coronavirus Global research and innovation forum: towards a research roadmap” co-hosted by the World Health Organization R&D Blueprint and Global Research Collaboration for Infectious Disease Preparedness (GLOPID-R). She and Ross Upshur presented on the topic of “Ethical considerations for research”.1)

She co-authored a paper published in May 2020 calling for the rationing of N95 masks, intensive care unit (ICU) beds, and ventilators.2)

On March 2nd, 2020, Thome co-authored an article in which she described excluding pregnant or lactating women from vaccine and therapeutic trials as “unethical” in the context of a public health emergency.3)
