Kheraj is a Muslim and a member of the Ismaili community. He was born in London, but grew up in east Africa, Switzerland, Pakistan and the Middle East.1)
Kheraj began his career at Salomon Brothers in 1986 and went on to hold a number of senior positions at leading international financial institutions.2)
Kheraj joined Barclays in 1998, where he served as Group Finance Director and Vice-Chairman and in various business leadership positions over the course of the following 12 years.3)
He was Chief Executive Officer of JP Morgan Cazenove, a London-based investment banking business.4)
Kheraj worked at Standard Chartered as Deputy Chairman and Chair of the Risk and Audit Committees.5)
In June 15, 2012, Kheraj was appointed as a non-executive director on the NHS Commissioning Board of National Health Service (NHS).6)

Kheraj is Chairman of Rothesay, a specialist pensions insurer.
Kheraj spends a substantial proportion of his time as a Senior Advisor to the Aga Khan Development Network and serves on the boards of various entities, including Aga Khan University and the University of Central Asia, as well as chairing its Endowment Committee.8)
