List of COVID-19 Injuries in Media Personalities

Numerous media personalities have been injured or killed shortly after receiving one of the COVID-19 vaccines. This is a list of their stories.

Actor and musician Tom Felton collapsed during the Ryder Cup celebrity golf event in September 2021 due to a “medical emergency”.¹⁾ It wasn't “specifically clear what caused Felton to collapse”, but unverified sources list “apparent heart attack”, “seizure”²⁾ and “deydration”³⁾ as potential causes. Felton had previously recorded a congratulatory message via Cameo to teenage vaccine product recipients congratulating them for “how many people [they're] keeping safe”.⁴⁾ Felton released an update on Instagram assuring fans he was “on the mend, officially” and thanking everyone who sent messages of support.⁵⁾ No clarification on the cause of the medical incident was provided.⁶⁾

Musician Eric Clapton received a first dose of the AstraZeneca shot in February 2021, after which he “straight away had severe reactions which lasted ten days”. He recovered and was offered a second dose after six weeks (instead of the twelve he had been told he would wait).⁷⁾ Despite his hesitation, he accepted and described experiencing “disastrous” results including neuropathy in his hands and feet. Clapton had previously suffered chronic peripheral neuropathy, which he now believes made the vaccine unsafe for him despite “media propaganda” insisting the vaccinations were safe for everyone. Clapton shared in a Telegram message, “I feared I would never play again.”⁸⁾

Singer Céline Dion announced she was forced to cancel her upcoming performances in Las Vegas scheduled from November 5 to 20, 2021 and January 19 to February 5, 2022, due to “unforeseen medical symptoms”. ^{9) 10)} Dion had been experiencing “severe and persistent muscle spasms,” preventing her from rehearsing and performing. She had previously publicly encouraged her fans to get vaccinated.¹¹⁾

Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner suffered an aortic aneurysm and complete aortic dissection while onstage at the Louder Than Life festival in Kentucky in October 2021.¹²⁾ Describing watching footage of the incident, he described, “I can see in my face the confusion and anguish I was feeling whilst playing ‘Painkiller’ as my aorta ruptured and started to spill blood into my chest cavity… From what I’ve been told by my surgeon, people with this don’t usually make it to the hospital alive.” Faulkner was taken to Rudd Heart & Lung Center four miles away and underwent a 10.5 hour emergency open heart surgery. He confirmed he had no prior heart issues and that he was caught off guard.¹³⁾ The band postponed the remainder of the tour as a result.¹⁴⁾ Faulkner's bandmate Rob Halford had urged fans to receive a COVID-19 injection.¹⁵⁾

Carlos Tejada, Deputy Asia Editor for The New York Times who contributed to coverage of the global Covid-19 crisis in 2021 that won a Pulitzer Prize, suddenly died of a heart attack at a hospital in Seoul on Friday, December 17, 2021. He was 49. ¹⁶⁾ Earlier that day he had Tweeted a photo of getting a booster shot accompanied with the message: “Double-vaxxed. Janssen-fueled, Moderna-boosted. Hey, Omicron: Hit me with your wet snot. All I had to do was fill out this form in a language I can't read. Translation software tells me I know belong to the BTS army.”

On December 18, 2021, his wife Tweeted on his account: “This is Carlos's wife, Nora. It's with deepest sorrow that I have to share with you that Carlos passed away last night of a heart attack. I've lost my best friend and our kids lost a truly great dad. I will be off social media for awhile.”
