Social Distancing During the COVID-19 Pandemic

During the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing was utilized for the first time as a public health measure, but on a very large scale without any prior scientific research, and despite enormous economic consequences for a virus that is aerosolized. A study by MIT researchers showing the ineffecacy of social distancing was received for review in September of 2020, but remained unpublished until almost May of 2021.1)

Economic Impacts

  • U. of Chicago; Greenstone and Nigam ( paper ) estimates a $8T benefit from social distancing based on reducing fatalities by 1.76M in the next six months. “A lower bound”. The 1.76M includes 630k who went untreated because of hospital overcrowding. Relies on the batshit insane doomsday model. Interesting that top economists took that for granted.
