Black & Veatch

1997 corp site - If you can imagine it, we can build it.

Sometimes it begins as notes on the back of an envelope, or a doodle on a paper napkin, or a stick-drawing on a receipt. It's an idea. Straight from the imagination.

Black & Veatch is an engineering construction company that has made its mark in the world by turning ideas into reality . . . concepts into achievements . . . dreams into accomplishments.1)

Value Engineering

Black & Veatch has maintained a strong commitment to using formal Value Engineering (VE) for nearly 25 years. In addition to incorporating countless informal VE studies into our design activities, we have performed more than 130 formally structured and fully documented VE studies for our designs and for those of others.

To meet this commitment, we maintain an experienced and well-trained staff of VE Team Leaders, engineers, architects, and other technical professionals. We can custom-assemble for your project a team of specialists who are accustomed to designing facilities similar to your project. Our experienced teams know how to maximize the value of your project by maintaining, or improving, function, quality, and performance while minimizing cost. The savings identified by our studies routinely produce a return on investment of 25:1 and have exceeded 100:1.

We have completed VE studies for the U.S. Department of Defense and Department of Energy, for petro-chemical processing plants, water and wastewater treatment plants, large civil works projects, and institutional and commercial facilities. Recent high profile projects include a series of studies for a $2.0 billion gas plant, a major reconstruction project for the Panama Canal, and a series of studies for a $550 million water supply, storage, and treatment project.

Related to, and complimenting, our VE services are such services as Partnering, Concept Design Development workshops, Conflict Resolution, Financial Feasibility Studies, and Cost Estimating.2)

LNG China

Black & Veatch LNG Technology Helps Deliver Needed Natural Gas Supplies to Rural China

Overland Park, Kan. (January 26, 2009) – Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company, announced today that its patented PRICO® LNG (liquefied natural gas) process is helping bring natural gas supplies to customers in rural China.

“Black & Veatch chose to develop these projects with Chemtex as a strategic partner in China,” Price added. “Our company and Chemtex are providing engineering, procurement and construction services for the LNG facilities.”

The first LNG facility is in Erdos, Inner Mongolia, and attained full production capacity of 200,000 metric tons per year in December 2008. A second facility in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, has also begun commercial operation.

“Following completion of the Erdos and Zhuhai facilities, we were able to start up and achieve full design capacity in just three weeks,” said Wim van der Zande, Chemtex President and CEO. “This demonstrates the reliability, ease of use and precise design of the Black & Veatch technology and has enabled our clients to quickly move LNG supplies to market.”

Four additional plants are planned in central Sichuan Province, central Shaanxi province, northwestern Gansu province and the northwestern Xinjiang Autonomous Region. Upon completion, the six facilities will supply a total of approximately 1.2 million tons per year of LNG, resulting in residents being able to use natural gas for heating and cooking.

“These projects demonstrate the viability of providing energy assurance in remote areas around the globe,” said Bob Wojnarowski, Black & Veatch’s Regional General Manager. 12)
