Bob Lee was an American technology executive based in Miami, Florida. He was the son of Rick Lee and brother of Tim Oliver Lee.
From 1997-2000, Lee worked as a web developer for several organizations including Red Rock Consulting, Southeast Missouri State University, and D’Arcy.1) He then took on senior consulting positions at Capgemini; Ajilon Consulting (where he “developed MasterCard's member bank web site”); and OCI (where he built a stock trading system for A.G. Edwards).
Lee worked at AT&T from September 2003 to October 2004, then jumped to a longer-term position at Google as a staff software engineer. There, he “led the core library development for Android,” the company’s mobile operating system.2)
In January 2010, Lee was headhunted by e-commerce startup Square, where he went to work as Chief Technology Officer.3) He led the development of Square’s Cash App,4) launching in October 2013 under the named Square Cash.5)
Two months later, Lee took a job as a limited partner with SV Angel.6)
In May 2017, Lee became a limited partner at SignalFire.
In November 2020, Lee became an advisor and Head of Software for PreDxion Bio.
Lee began advising a cryptocurrency startup called MobileCoin in February 2021, taking on a full time gig as Chief Product Officer (CPO) in November 2021.
Lee was fatally stabbed near downtown San Francisco, California on April 4, 2023. He was brought to San Francisco General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.8) The San Francisco Police Department arrested Nima Momeni on April 13 on suspicion of Lee's murder.
The men were quickly suspected to have known each other, which was later confirmed.9) Lee and Momeni's sister, Khazar Momeni, allegedly both participated in “The Lifestyle”, a “crowd of affluent San Francisco partygoers” who “attended debauched events where swingers and cheaters would gather for casual, drug-fueled sex.”10) Dana Wagner, former general counsel for Square, commented that Lee “was also hanging out with people who weren't great people, and that was part of what happened in the end. 'There are a lot of swingers, cheaters and liars in that crowd'. A friend of Lee's named David Meyers “described the crowd that Lee would frequent with as: 'Highly functioning, very intelligent people, incredibly talented, and there's not much in our world for them to do.'”
Lee's separated wife Krista Lee contested the notion that Lee was a “partier”, despite microdosing ketamine for depression.11) Lee allegedly had cocaine and ketamine in his blood at the time of his death.
