Vaccination Credential Initiative

The Vaccination Credential Initiative (VCI) is an American public-private partnership hosted by MITRE.

History

VCI developed the SMART Health Card, described as “verified versions of your clinical information, such as vaccination history or test results.”1) 2)

The primary focus of the SMART Health Card is “on the use case of representing the minimal set of clinical data necessary to represent COVID-19 vaccination status and laboratory testing for verification purposes”, with support for “other infectious diseases as a secondary use case.”3) It is based on standards set by Health Level Seven International (HL7).

VCI has a steering group which is made up of representatives from Mayo Clinic, MITRE, Microsoft, the Commons Project, Evernorth, CARIN Alliance, UC San Diego Health and Apple.4)
