Noble Lie

Definition: A noble lie is when a person in a leadership position tells a lie, withholds the truth, and/or misleads other people to achieve their desired outcome. A noble lie is described by Plato in The Republic.

Examples of noble lies during the SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic:

  1. Two weeks to slow the spread.
  2. Professor Chris Whitty, Chief Medical officer for England and Chief Medical Advisor to the UK government, said in early 2020; “In terms of wearing a mask, our advice is clear; that wearing a mask if you don't have an infection reduces the risk almost not at all. So we do not advise that”.
  3. To increase vaccine uptake, Dr. Fauci increased the target to achieve herd immunity. He admitted that this was based upon a lie (solely based upon polling data and not on any scientific information).
  4. Promoting/mandating masks as the best tool to prevent infection, while knowing that low quality data shows masks have a limited efficacy, if any, as a respiratory virus source control.
  5. If you get vaccinated, you can stop wearing a mask and can return to your normal lifestyle.
  6. CDC recommends wearing two masks at once, while knowing there is no scientific rationale to support the recommendation.
  7. The target percent of the population to achieve herd immunity was increased to promote vaccine uptake without any scientific justification.
Fauci says, "I can nudge this up a bit"
  8. Government officials claimed that hospitalizations were increasing in children and adolescents to increase vaccine uptake.
  9. Ignoring natural immunity to prevent false claims of natural immunity, and increase profits of pharmaceutical companies.
Fauci says "You may not be protected for an indefinite period of time."
PolitiFact: Do you have to get the vaccine if you’ve had COVID-19?
  10. Exaggerating the risk of the virus to promote vaccination and improve compliance with Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions.
UK Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviour comments that the perceived level of personal threat posed by the virus needs to be increased to improve compliance with restrictions.
  11. Many leaders have stated that myocarditis is usually mild and resolves within a few days, when in fact myocarditis causes permanent heart damage.
  12. Many media professionals and public health officials have tried to discourage the use of Ivermectin by proclaiming that it is for deworming horses, when in fact it is authorized for human use for several causes and is being studied for Covid-19.
US FDA Tweet states "You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously, y'all. Stop it."
  13. To improve compliance with restrictions, leaders establish that the goal is to prevent the hospitals from becoming overwhelmed.
  14. To spread fear and promote compliance with restrictions, death with Covid is classified as a Covid death.
