History
COVID-19
On February 20, 2023, the Office of the Premier of South Australia issued a press release promoting fifth doses of COVID-19 vaccines to South Australians.1) It asserts that “people who are unvaccinated against COVID-19 face much higher risks, including eight times higher risk of hospitalisation and five times higher risk of death, compared to people with up-to-date vaccinations.”2) It cites a study by the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), but failed to provide the study itself.
Subsequent requests for clarification by journalist Rebekah Barnett yielded no further disclosures, other than directing her to a summary document of the analysis prepared by Caroline Miller and Joshua Ross (not the analysis itself).3) 4)
Several doctors participated in promoting the study despite not having been given the chance to review it, including Chris Picton, Nicola Spurrier and Adrian Esterman.5)
