Guillain-Barré is a neurological disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks part of its peripheral nervous system—the network of nerves located outside of the brain and spinal cord. GBS can range from a very mild case with brief weakness to nearly devastating paralysis, leaving the person unable to breathe independently. Fortunately, most people eventually recover from even the most severe cases of GBS. After recovery, some people will continue to have some degree of weakness.

Unexplained Cases

From 2020-2021, a localized epidemic of sudden neurological diseases have appeared affecting patients from their 20s to their 80s in the Province of New Brunswick, Canada. “If a group of people wanted to breed conspiracy theorists, then our government has done a wonderful job at promoting it,” said Tim Beatty, son of one victim. “Are they just trying to create a narrative for the public that they hope we’ll absorb and walk away from? I just don’t understand it.”1) It is unclear what the cause of the epidemic is, and the New Brunswick government appears to be trying to suppress a deeper investigation.
