The Consortium for Conservation Medicine “is a unique collaborative institution that strives to understand the link between anthropogenic environmental change, the health of all species, and the conservation of biodiversity.” Peter Daszak, Executive Director

Established in March of 1997, the Tufts Center for Conservation Medicine (Tufts CCM) is housed in the Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health (IDGH) and is a founding member of the Consortium for Conservation Medicine. The Center for Conservation Medicine at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University was the first university-based center devoted to the study of conservation medicine.

With an interdisciplinary team approach, conservation medicine works to solve complex global health problems such as controlling disease in wildlife populations to help protect human and animal health, and preserve species biodiversity.

The Tufts Center for Conservation Medicine provides opportunities for students to participate in global initiatives concerning animal, human and ecosystem health in conjunction with our International Veterinary Medicine and Wildlife and Conservation Medicine signature opportunities. The center has established programs in regional and international conservation medicine research, and has developed novel curricula in conservation medicine to meet the needs of both veterinary and post-graduate students. ¹⁾
