COVID-19

In August 2020, Mayor Kennedy Stewart acknowledged a $890,000 donation to the City from the Canadian Medical Association Foundation, distributed by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM). The funds were disbursed from the COVID-19 Community Response Fund for Vulnerable Populations, and was used “to support community-level emergency responses to COVID-19, through interventions that address urgent gaps in ensuring the health and well-being of people in disproportionately impacted communities in Vancouver,” including “providing washroom trailers in numerous highly trafficked public spaces to mitigate the closure of daytime services and facilities, as well as increasing the availability of peer monitoring support services.”1)

Vaccine mandate

As of February 28, 2022, 105 employees of the City were affected with potential layoff related to COVID-19 vaccines.2) 25 medical exemption requests had been received by this date, along with 36 non-medical requests.

Between September 1, 2021 and May 15, 2022, the City received 30 applications for accommodations to the government's COVID-19 vaccine mandate on religious grounds. As of August 2022, 3 were approved; 2 were pending; 2 were considered “compliant”; and 23 were denied.3)
