The influenza condition (disease) is the result of infection by one or more in a family of influenza viruses. This respiratory condition can cause symptoms much like a cold, but sometimes more severe, or even deadly.
In 2018, Japanese pharmaceutical company Shionogi & Co. developed a drug called Xofluza (baloxavir marboxil) that they say kills influenza virus in 24 hours.1) The drug was approved in Japan in early 2018.2)
