Mathews brought several unexpected guests with him: a lobbyist named Michael Geoghegan, another osteopathic practitioner named Howard Dieno, and an unnamed notetaker. Geoghegan had previously registered as a lobbyist on behalf of Mathews for the purpose of establishing "recognition of UK trained Osteopaths."((Geoghegan, M. MacKinnon and Jodouin noted in minutes from the meeting that the group raised some "interesting points in respect of the overall approach to professional regulation and oversight" that they intended to "give some thought to over the coming year." Specifically, the "notion of an over-arching body/council to oversee all colleges" and "how to address public safety most effectively in relation to health occupations which are not subject to college oversight, and which do not warrant self-regulation." The guests did not disclose whether they sought the meeting on their own behalf or on behalf of an outside interest.((MacKinnon, M., & Jodouin, L. (2015). //FOI Request - HTH-2015-00014// (pp. 2–3). As a result of such lobbying activities we would hope to see either changes to regulations, expanded scope for nursing providers and/or increased nursing involvement in mental health and addictions resources. We may also at some point request funding from government to help fund supplemental nursing education. As the professional association that represents all four of BC’s nursing designations, we have an opportunity to advocate to government to allow us to administer educational funding dollars (perhaps in the areas of nursing leadership, cultural sensitivity and Indigenous nursing) that can benefit nursing on the whole; To increase awareness of the nursing association and to ensure that the nursing 'voice' is embedded at a policy level. | Development, establishment, amendment or termination of any program, policy, directive or guideline of the government of British Columbia or a Provincial entity; Development of any legislative proposal by the government of British Columbia, a Provincial entity or a member of the Legislative Assembly; Introduction, amendment, passage or defeat of any Bill or resolution in or before the Legislative Assembly; Development or enactment of any regulation, including the enactment of a regulation for the purposes of amending or repealing a regulation; Awarding, amendment or termination of any contract, grant or financial benefit by or on behalf of the government of British Columbia or a Provincial entity | COVID-19, Health, Mental Health and Addictions; Advanced Education, Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, Mental Health and Addictions; COVID-19, Education, Emergency Preparedness, Employment and Training, Health, Hospitals, Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation | ==== Letters received ==== * September 13, 2021: College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia ===== External links ===== * LinkedIn * OpenGovCa
