During the [[COVID-19 pandemic]], Couey participated with a group known as [[DRASTIC]] that researched the origins of the [[SARS-CoV-2]] [[coronavirus]], disputing the [[zoonosis]] origins story.

Couey participated in the public comment period during the June 23, 2022 meeting of the [[Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices]] (ACIP), in which he criticized the regulatory decision making of the [[Food and Drug Administration]] (FDA) and [[Center for Disease Control and Prevention]] in regards to [[COVID-19 vaccines|COVID-19 vaccines]].((@jjcouey.
