+Influenza vaccination at a national level in the US began in 1957, according to a review article by Anthony Fauci and two NIAID Associates ((https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36634620/)) published in 2022.  Fauci et al note that, "after more than 60 years of experience with influenza vaccines, very little improvement in vaccine prevention of infection has been noted", and in fact likens the challenges with the Covid-19 vaccines to similar issues with those directed at influenza.
