+March 13, 2023: On CNN in an interview by Jim Acosta Fauci continued to promote a natural occurrence of the SARS-COV-2 virus (jumping from an animal to man) while saying " ... I will keep a completely open mind"  and " ... all of the intelligence agencies agree unanimously that this was not engineered ..."  he also posits " ... a lab leak could be someone was out in the wild, maybe looking for different types of viruses in bats, got infected, went into a lab and was being studied in the lab and then came out of the lab but if that's the definition of a lab leak, Jum, then that still a natural occurrence ..." +I am announcing today that I will be stepping down from the positions of Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and Chief of the NIAID Laboratory of Immunoregulation, as well as the position of Chief Medical Advisor to President Joe Biden. I will be leaving these positions in December of this year to pursue the next chapter of my career.
+It has been the honor of a lifetime to have led the NIAID, an extraordinary institution, for so many years and through so many scientific and public health challenges.
